Vintage Yamaha FG Fret Specs and Replacement Options Modern frets have .020" wide tangs. While .002" is slightly less than the thickness of a human hair, it's still an interference fit. .002" x 21 frets = .042", which will cause the neck to back bow if doing a full refret. I also found the fret slot wasn't actually .018", checked with feeler gages, they were more like .016". User reviews: Yamaha FG-180-1 - Audiofanzine Good deal! Published on 05/26/13 at 13:11. The Yamaha FG-180 is a dreadnought-type Folk guitar with a slim mahogany neck with "boat" profile, almost flat rosewood fingerboard. Mine has the red-orange Nippon Gakki tag, so it's manufactured in Japan. No clue about when it was born, but it certainly has seen the best part of 40 years or so.

FG labels | Yamaha Guitars Before the most famous red label Nippon Gakki label was introduced Yamaha used for a very short period a "green" label.
